How to select filler material? Choose plastic filler or ceramic filler?

      (1) Plastic filler The materials of plastic filler mainly include polypropylene (PP), polyethylene (PE) and polyvinyl chloride (PVC), etc. Polypropylene is generally used in China.  The plastic filler has good corrosion resistance and can resist the corrosion of common inorganic acid, alkali and organic solvent.  It has good temperature resistance and can be used below 100°C for a long time.

Plastic filler is light in weight, cheap in price, good in toughness, impact-resistant, non-fragile, and can be made into thin-walled structure.  It has large flux and low pressure, and is mostly used in absorption, desorption, extraction, dust removal and other devices.  The disadvantage of plastic filler is its poor surface wettability, but its surface wettability can be improved by appropriate surface treatment.

      (2) ceramic filler ceramic filler has good corrosion resistance and heat resistance, ceramic filler is cheap, has good surface wetting performance, brittle and fragile is its biggest drawback.  It is widely used in gas absorption, gas washing, liquid extraction and other processes.

      (3) metal filler metal filler can be made of a variety of materials, mainly considering corrosion when selecting.  Carbon steel filler is low in cost and has good surface wetting property. It should be preferred for non-corrosive or low corrosive materials.  Stainless steel filler has strong corrosion resistance and can generally resist corrosion of common materials except Cl-, but its cost is relatively high and its surface wettability is poor. In some special occasions (such as decompression rectification process under extremely low spray density), its surface must be treated to obtain good application effect.  Fillers made of titanium, special alloy steel and other materials have high cost and are generally only used in some highly corrosive materials.

Generally speaking, metal filler can be made into thin-walled structure with large flux, small gas resistance and high impact resistance. It can be used under high temperature, high pressure and high impact strength, and has the most extensive application range.
